Lily Werlinich’s final project opens with a shot of a Bruce Springsteen concert; the vertical format of that shot indicates that she probably recorded it with her own phone. From then on, the musical memories of her life follow one another vertically, from her childhood to the present, recorded by her or by others, but always with music as a narrative thread that links them and keeps them in spite and through time and space. The best of our lives, that which we value above all else – we could conclude after seeing Lily’s work – could take the form of a playlist composed of the melodies we relate to those we love.
