The angels of Mariela Sanchez’s moving final project are the people who are no longer there, those who have left the lives of the interviewees and to whom they dedicate their memories and the last words they would have liked to say to them. The form chosen by the author – a camera that serves the faces and voices of those who tell her story – is simple; so is the ending. Or perhaps only in appearance. The emptiness that opens the last shot is a space in white – or in black – where the words we have heard take on their true meaning. And with them, our own thoughts about those who are gone and those we miss. Our own Angels.
